Christians for Fair Witness on the Middle East Prays and Pleads for an End to Israeli/ Palestinian Violence

On June 12 three Israeli teenagers were kidnaped while hitchhiking near the Gush Etzion settlement on the West Bank. Israel feared that the kidnaped teens would be taken to Gaza to meet the same fate of Gilad Shalit (the Israeli soldier held captive for five years by Hamas militants), or worse. Israel says it has proof that Hamas was behind the kidnaping, although the Palestinian leadership questioned what they called Israel’s “absence of [such] proof.”

Christians For Fair Witness on the Middle East Prays That Israeli/Palestinian Peace Talks Continue

(New York, NY April 7, 2014) Israeli/Palestinian peace talks appeared to reach a crisis last week after both sides took unilateral steps which ran counter to their commitment to the negotiations. Israel refused to release Palestinian prisoners unless the Palestinians agreed to continue talks beyond the initial April deadline. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas signed 15 United Nations treaties, reneging on his commitment not to seek relief through international bodies during the course of negotiations. Each side blamed the other for sabotaging the talks.

Christians for Fair Witness on The American Churches and the Role of Fear in the Israeli/Palestinian Conflict

Sixty three years after the founding of the State of Israel, forty four years after the beginning of the Israeli occupation, and eighteen years after the start of the hope-filled years of the Oslo Accords, Palestinians and Israelis find themselves still unable to come to a negotiated agreement. Locked in an on-going conflict which regularly spills into violence and bloodshed, we are led to ask, what is it that is keeping the Palestinians and Israelis from finding their way to a peaceful solution?
